I can't even get past the first step. When I open the activity monitor, select the spyware, and click the X--it opens up again. I have three different ones showing there.
They are:
MacOSDefender
MacPerformance
MacSecurity Plus
I have MacScan and CleanMyMac3 and neither of them even detect the spyware.
Help, please!

Hello, have you tried resetting your MacBook Air?, if not you can try using this article: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204904.
Remember do a backup using iCloud or Time Machine before you reinstall macOS, only be sure to backup your files and not the applications, because you could backup & restore the spyware that's affecting your MacBook Air.
Also, i would recommend you to get AVG or Avast to continue protecting your MacBook.
