Remote desktop ARD unresponsive

There is a long, difficult history with Apple Remote Desktop, that spans years. One of the hallmark problems is, after disconnecting, the ability to remote control (UI) a host fails. You can issue UNIX commands just fine -- resetting ARD on the remote system does no good.

I'm running Mojave now and where I work remotely, this problem interferes with getting work done. This is an issue with the underlying services on the remote host, it doesn't matter which VNC/remote product you use.

I've followed directions at resetting the ARD, etc. Nothing works. I can't believe this is still happening today, but it is.

My question is, how can I resolve this? Is solely an issue with the ARD subsystem, or is there something else that needs tweaking? In this case, I can't reboot the remote Mac, as there are important things happening on that system now -- the last time I attempted a remote reboot of the Mac, it locked me out.

Help.

Hi there Forrest,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're running into some issues with Apple Remote Desktop.

It sounds like you've done some excellent troubleshooting already. This is a very thorough resource with information that may be of use for issues like this: Remote Desktop Help. If you've reset ARD already and found the issue persists, a restart of the remote Mac may be a good step; however, if you're unable to do that due to usage on the remote Mac, I recommend double-checking the resource above. If that doesn't help, you may want to get in contact with Apple directly next since this sounds like an ongoing issue: Contact Apple Support.

I hope this helps you!

Cheers.
