USB Controller Failure Sleep Crashing - MBP 13 Late 2013 / Mojave 10.14.2 - LG Ultrawide

Hello,

At the same time as upgrading to 10.14.2 I'm noticing continual USB errors from my console log shown below. The USB ports are working fine in normal use and the errors stop when I remove the thunderbolt port connected to my LG 34UC98 -W monitor, which also has USB ports.

Any ideas if this is the new OS USB drivers / a MBP USB controller hardware failure or the LG monitor over TB?

This is causing sleep wake failures with the system report below the console log. Would be grateful for any advice as it's not happening if I connect to my LG monitor over HDMI.

Hi Ourobrs,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I see you may have a question about some reporting in Console.

To clarify, are you experiencing any symptoms outside of what you observed in Console? You mentioned a possible Sleep/Wake crash; what's happening there? Are you seeing errors stating your computer restarted because of a problem, or anything similar, when you wake your Mac?

If the errors only appear when a specific external display is connected, that does sound like the most likely cause. You said the USB ports seem to work fine otherwise; do you see any similar errors with another USB device connected?

You might try creating a temporary administrator account on the Mac and logging in there to see if you can replicate the issue. This would tell you a bit more about what's causing this. Here are the steps you'll need: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. Once you log in, test it out to see if you get the same results. You'll find more information about next steps you can take, depending on the results of testing, in the link I posted.

Cheers!
