magic mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting from bluetooth

After updating to Mojave m y magic mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting at random intervals from the bluetooth.

I tried resetting the bluetooth from it's Debug menu and still getting disconnected.

Also tried deleting and keyboard preferences from Finder->library->preferences and still getting disconnected.

This is really frustrating to have to keep and extra off-brand mouse just to reconnect the mouse/keyboard on a 4k+ $ machine.

Hi - I also had this problem and "solved it" by deleting the Android File Transfer application. The Apple Support folks were unable to solve this, and the Apple Store gave me a second, brand new iMac within a week of getting the first one. Of course, the problem remained until I discovered this thread :-) (Discussions with Senior Apple Techs included learning that they do not access Community threads. They rely solely on what is listed in their internal information channels.)

Question: Is there an application equivalent to Android File Transfer that can be used without the Bluetooth problem? I need some way to get to my DAP (digital audio player) to add/delete music files. Thanks!!!

I am having my magic mouse and keyboard disconnect randomly since about March 5th-ish. Finally searched google and found this forum; however, I am still on High Sierra - nothing to do with Mojave.

Basically I have to get out my old wired mouse, plug it in to USB, and then "turn off bluetooth". It takes a while to turn off, almost like it has frozen. I turn bluetooth back on and then when I open the keyboard or mouse settings I have to tell it to connect again. WHAT in the world is going on!!!!

Again, here are my settings:

iMac Retina 5K, 27 inch, 2017

High Sierra 10.13.6

How about an "Apple Genius" get in on this!!!

Looks like this is a life-time issue and no useful help from Apple.

In my case, bought all these together new (MacBook Pro 15' plus magic keyboard and mouse) and having same issues. Am on OS Catalina.

Now I will be happy to return the useless keyboard and mouse and downgrade to wired alternatives and will not buy anything Apple specifies as MAGIC ever again.

I have the same problem.

Formatted the hard disk and reinstalled OS.

I bought a new magic mouse.

Problem remains.

When I search on google, many people have the same issue in the last week.

So now I have two (very expensive) mice on a €3000 ($3500) computer that don't work.

Can I conclude that it's a problem caused by an error in Mojave?

And still no update..

Good job apple!

I'm sure you will be ok now. I couldn't find any other files on my computer either and just did the delete app, empty trash, restart thing. It's been brilliant since I got rid of it. I might add that a couple of years ago I was having serious problems with a different mac in that it was slowing down to a standstill. Apple took remote control over my computer while I was at home and sussed out that it was an app called Wondershare which I had paid a lot of money for which was causing the problems. Sure enough once it was all deleted my computer was fine. It is often apps which cause problems even though they are supposedly good for mac. So annoying!

My Android File Transfer app started acting a bit weird for a while before I deleted it. But it would work after a few attempts and it is actually a really good app. What I am going to do is download it every time I need it and then delete it immediately when I have transferred what have to transfer. Hopefully I will get enough time before it disconnects my bluetooth keyboard and mouse!

I'm going to throw out a question about the magic mouse .... anyone have the "fluke" of just moving the mouse, I think after being asleep, it zooms way in to wherever the pointer is? No finger gestures, just moving the mouse. I mean it zooms WAY in, not the "two finger tap" zoom. The two finger tap gets it back to normal, but can not replicate it.

Also, mouse pointer is sometimes "nervous". Wasn't nervous before removing the Android File App. Weird? But was doing this when first got iMac.

Found another solution. I spoke with the Astell & Kern folks since I have an A&K DAP. They suggested trying Commander One software from eltima.com. There is a free version I downloaded, and it seems to come with a free 14 day trial of the Pro version. It is not clear whether the Pro version functions are needed to access DAPs. Guess I will find out when the 14 day trial period is up :-).

The first two times I opened the software, I got a flash of a disconnect window for the mouse, which then connected immediately. Note that this did not happen the third time I opened the software today. It's been a day or more having the software installed and there have been no other Bluetooth issues.

The software opens with dual panes so you have one window to select your DAP and another to select where you have your music files. In my case they're on an external hard drive. At the bottom of the window are commands, including Copy which you use to copy the music file and then paste into the DAP folder of choice. (If you use the Move command, the file(s) are removed from the source drive, not copied.)

Perhaps this software will work for you...
