All websites not secure using Safari

I can't get on the internet on another computer. I have Safari as my only web browser and every time I type in a URL I get a message that the site is not secure and do I want to proceed. I tried to install Webroot, but I was not able because it cautioned it couldn't get a secure web connection. I'm seeing my typed in URL change to something different than what I enter. When I look at Certificated, they are all out of CA, and not active, showing some future date. Just guessing, I'd say I've been hacked, but I don't know what to do next. Any advice appreciated.

I shut down my home network and worked from a hotspot I created on my iPhone. I created a new user. I started in Safe Mode. I attempted to download Etrecheck, but the system stopped me stating my OS was out of date. I reconnected to my household network at this point. This computer is a mid 2009 MacBook Pro and was running OS X 10.7. I updated the OS to El Capitan and was subsequently able to download Etrecheck, but I've not run it yet. Currently installing Webroot as the computer is now permitting me to do this. I think it's all good now. Do you recommend I still run the Etrecheck? Do you recommend I upgrade to any other OS? Thank you for your suggestions!

Have you tried restarting/resetting your router?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
