Issues connecting new iphone to my car

I have a 2067 Mercedes GLA 250. Was using CarPlay with my iPhone 6s plus iOS 11 seamlessly . Got a new IPhone XS MAX with iOS 12 today - when plugging into Apple certified original USB cable in car - display is completely distorted on CarPlay. My daughter has the same phone and she is able to connect seamlessly??!! PLEASE HELP !!!
