New battery. It starts but won’t open, then after a minute or so the computer shuts off

Have you charged the new battery at least 8 to 12 hours before attempting to run the Mac?

Also some replacement batteries may need "re-calibration" to get their built-in gauge to

read correctly; there's a logic chip in the original battery to tell the mac of its status. ~ So,

if the battery does not work right away, the problem may be lack of power.

I've re-calibrated MacBook batteries and also older G4 iBook batteries to keep them going.

There were two articles from owc about newer tech nu-power battery maintenance that

apply to most removable battery Apple portables; one I see on their site at this link:

Calibrate and Exercise your Battery for better Health, Run Times | OWC Blog

https://blog.macsales.com/27698-calibrate-and-exercise-your-battery-for-better-health-run-times

A second older article elsewhere in the same site says fairly much the same, but different:

Battery conditioning NewerTech OWC (mac portables)

https://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=hardwareandnews/newerbatteries/newerbatteryconditioning.html

And sometimes the problem may also be the MagSafe power adapter is not connecting

with all the pins (spring loaded connectors, fit the Mac port from power supply) and

there are Support articles on how to clean or inspect the MagSafe to troubleshoot, etc.

Could be 'bad/new' battery. The reseller may offer replacement battery under initial warranty.
