No text sound on phone while near computer?

When I'm on my Mac computer, my iPhone XS doesn't make the text alert sound. I have my volume down on my computer 99.9% of the time, so if it is making noise through it, I don't hear it. I also don't get a visual on the computer most of the time. I think I saw one notice once. How can I make my phone play the text sound when I'm near my computer??? I am missing texts and not seeing I got one for sometimes a day later, depending on when I put my phone on it's charger.

If you use Continuity, try disabling it and see if the same thing happens. The following article shows how to set up Continuity for SMS but the same steps can be used to disable it as well:

I understand from your post that when you are on your Mac, your iPhone XS does not make the alert sound for your text messages. If you are not hearing the notification alert on your iPhone make sure Deliver Quietly and/or Do Not Disturb are not enabled. I don't have Do Not Disturb turned on. I also don't have the deliver quietly turn on. Didn't know about that till now. For some reason if I am near my computer, the text tone doesn't go through. Sometimes I am not looking at my computer screen and I don't have the volume up because it is in the living room so I can watch tv and surf at the same time. So sometimes I am looking at the tv. If I visual notification comes in and I'm looking at the tv, I don't see it. So I really need the phone to send the text tone.
