$800 to fix macbook pro black screen

l have a 2016 MacBook pro that goes black when it’s tilted past vertical.

The screen comes back on when I close the screen and open it but goes black again when opened past 90 degrees.

I brought it to a 3rd party macbook repair shop, and they quoted $80 just for diagnostics and $800+ tax to fix the problem.

Is this pricing normal? Something feels off about this place..

I was expecting somewhere less than $500 since the screen isn’t completely black all the time.

Can someone give me some insight? Thanks.

Macbook (2016 or later)

If you are in the USA In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test.

Pricing is relative, who is to say.

Cable or cable connection problem it seems to me. Do you have a external monitor you can test your GPU

I have no idea if this requires a full screen replacement just to fix the short.

Verify the display data cable is not pinched and also make sure it is fully seated. It sounds like the cable is rubbing somewhere along the hinge. search ifixit.com for a do it yourself.
