Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X

After connecting, successfully, my iPhone X to the RDX's infotainment unit, the connection repeatedly cuts off, only to re-connect some time later. I have changed cords, and the software on both the phone and the infotainment system are up to date.

I fiinally fixed the Apple CarPlay issues my wife was having with her 2019 Acura RDX and her iPhone 8. After following all the ideas on this page, my nearly identical phone worked, and hers did not.

I went into the phone profiles in the car’s CarPlay settings, and there were two profiles for her phone. I deleted them (along with all unneeded profiles created by the dealer test drives, etc.) and her phone works flawlessly.

I also recommend naming your phone something other than the default “iPhone” in the general settings.

I also have had this problem on my 2019 RDX. I have an iPhone 7+ and my husband has an iPhone X. Both do the same thing. We have switched cables, installed all updates to no avail. Now additional input, my husband has a 2017 Ford Explorer with CarPlay and both our phones work flawlessly. Do the math...it’s Acura with a bug.

As a software tester, this puzzle has driven me crazy. There is no logic to when this happens and lately it has only gotten worse (no updates to car or phone, so what is it?)

i just tried the factory reset and will see what happens.

I too have had this problem since I've had this car. I have the A-Spec and iPhone XS Max with latest SW. Not sure if anyone above has reported this, but the problem is twofold. When it cuts out it also cuts off charging the iPhone (all users should check their iPhone when Carplay dropout occurs to see if it's still charging, it probably isn't). Now, I noticed on many occasions that this Carplay dropout, sound output sputtering, and Carplay screen blackout will occur when the car engine stop feature is activated. It also happens sometimes when I shift in reverse when the screen shows rear camera. So, I believe this is more of an Acura issue. Also, Carplay includes Amazon Music which I have an unlimited subscription. I use this app mostly when driving. As of 7/2/19, Amazon updated the app and so far it has worked better, but still not as stable as the Apple native apps. So I agree that Apple and mostly Acura needs to fix this!

Acura is aware. If the dealer says they aren’t aware they are lying. Problem is the dealer says it’s up to Acura to fix and they are “working on update”. But no one knows if the update is being released in a week or 6 months. And no one knows what the update will fix. This is ridiculous. Acura sells a faulty product - and no repercussion. We pay our full cost or lease. This is unacceptable. I took it to my dealer and they played around and rebooted and reset - but doesn’t fix it and it won’t. This is an issue with the CarPlay in the Acura. I just got my car - but people I know have had theirs for 6 months with this issue. So who knows if and when this will be fixed - I would look into whether there should be compensation etc

Took delivery of 2019 RDX September 2018. At the same time purchased an iPhone 10 Xs Max.

The sync between the two systems worked well until about a month ago.

Firmware in the RDX and Software in the 10 Xs are up to date.

Systems sync at startup;

-but after 55-60 seconds RDX drops CarPlay connection,

-remains disconnected for 20 seconds, then reconnects.

Cycle continues to repeat (initiated termination after 10 cycles)

Verified multiple times.

Took RDX to dealer whom said system checks OK.

In my Wife's BMW X-1, my iPhone 10 Xs Max syncs wirelessly as designed.

Conclusion: RDX syncing is not working.

Acura: Time for a FIX.

This CarPlay disconnect problem seemed to start in my 2019 Acura RDX sometime after iOS 12.3 in the last few months. I have called Acura Tech Support for five times the last couple months to complain. I also called my local dealer who says the problem is very prevalent in our RDX an MDX both. The dealer service person I talk to said they’ve gotten about 15 calls on this the last month.

Acura is aware of the problem but they seem to have no idea what it’s gonna be fixed.

I tried the YouTube video fixed several times but that did not work for me.

Bluetooth audio seems to work fine and the problem is just with Apple CarPlay.

I tried numerous other fixes recommend in this form but nothing has worked for me.

I urge everyone to call Acura Concord support at 1 (800) 382-2238 to complain.

I agree that the only thing that is going to permanently fix this CarPlay disconnect problem is either an update to the Infotainment system or an update to iOS version. It is a software issue. It seems that beta versions of iOS 13 that comes out in September does not fix it. So it is likely going to take an update to the Infotainment system.

i have spent days trying various fixes mentioned in these forums, new cable, reset infotainment system using YouTube instructions, deleted CarPlay profile, tried turning off Bluetooth, etc. None of it worked for more than a few days.

My local Acura dealer gets a lot of phone calls about this issue.

I have called Acura a number of times. Got my case sent to an escalation engineer. He was no help and just gave me the “company line”. I pointed out that people are spending 50,000 on these cars and not being told that CarPlay is very unreliable. He just said if you read the fine print of the documentation that comes with the car it says CarPlay is an Apple product it it is not their responsibility if it does not work.

I recommended that they email us all to keep us up to date on the issue but that refuse to do it. It seems they would rather hide the fact that it does not work. Unbelievable.

So I gave up on CarPlay because of all the frustration and just use the limited functionality that Bluetooth gives you.

I'm having a lot of disconnects, but it's a "hard wire" issue, I believe.

This never happened prior, but for some weird reason, the USB port seems to be much more sensitive, with the recent upgrade. If I jostle the wire in any way, it disconnects. I find it hard to believe it's related to the upgrade, but it never happened before.

As for the operation of the Upgrade, it's about 95% there, in my opinion. There are few glitches with the trackpad, particular after getting a phone call. It seems to take a while, for the call to "go away" and for the trackpad to be properly operational. It's hard to explain what it does, but it does sort of "freeze". Also, there a few other glitches, when switching from a call, back to music. Nothing hugely inconvenient, but not perfect.

I bought my 2019 RDX a year ago this past August. I have an iPhone 6+ using up to date software. As I posted earlier, I had problems for months. The problems ran the gamut of those mentioned here. I posted a YouTube video showing how to reset. I had to run the reset twice, one right after the other, but the fix has worked for months. The only problem I’ve had is that every three or four weeks it will disconnect but reconnect by itself immediately. I mention all of this again because when the new iPhone arrives, I’ll be getting one. This may help answer the question of whether it’s the phone, the Apple software or Acura.
