Mac Pro 5.1 nvram issue

Hi there,

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 and it's lagging on Mojave.

I've tried writing this on terminal over recovery mode:

nvram 8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c:epid_provisioned=%01%00%00%00

It work's just fine!

But I have to do this time to time, when it starts to lag again (when I start the computer or it wake up from sleep mode)

Does anyone know a permanent fix?

If NVRAM settings change when the power is disconnected, you need a new PRAM/NVRAM backup battery. The battery holder is very delicate --- use a bright light and do not force it open.

The original is a BR2032 nominal 3 volt non-recharging long life lithium coin cell. But a readily-available CR2032 (used in garage door openers and car key fobs) is an adequate replacement.

You do not have TRIM enabled on your boot drive:

sudo trimforce enable

https://www.lifewire.com/enable-trim-for-ssd-in-os-x-yosemite-2260789

When completed, newly-freed blocks will be removed. To remove the great horde of deleted but not yet freed blacks, use one pass of Safe Mode. This does a pass of Disk Utility repair Disk as it starts up, while honoring the setting of trimforce. Unused data blacks are removed.

Hold down the shift key as you start up. This does an initial five-minute disk Utility repair disk cycle, then loads a minimal set of Extensions, including No third-party extensions and no graphics acceleration, then starts MacOS in a slightly-limited way.

Your userid and password will be required to proceed, even if you normally auto login. MacOS tires to take defaults for everything, although changes you make will "stick" in regular mode. Screen refresh will be wonky and slow, but ultimately correct.

Safe Mode is normally used to recover from disastrous settings, such as setting the screen resolution to something so crazy the screen can not come on.

In this case, you are taking advantage of Safe Mode's ability to honor the setting of trimforce while it repairs your disk, and frees up the horde of accumulated unused (but still saved) blocks. Disk Utility from Recovery does not do this, and Disk Utility in the running system (in regular mode not safe mode) also does not do this.

the issue starts when I turn the computer on....it is immediately noticed when I play a video, view something on web or on a program like premiere or maya...the computer like "gasps" it's a half second thing time to time, is more perceptible with videos...the video stops for a "micro instant" but the audio continues...It doesn't become worse, its the same "gasp" all the time.

The Mac was "lagging" when I ran Etrecheck.

Right now is not lagging because I did the nvram code thing. I'll see if it has stopped when time goes by....

Thank's
