Canon MB2720 will not AirPrint

I am running Mojave 10.14.2 and my Canon MB2720 will not print using AirPrint. I have uninstalled the printer and when re-installing, it gives me a choice of either a MB2700 Bonjour printer or the Canon IJ printer. I installed the Bonjour and cannot get it to print using my lan cable connected to the printer. I called Canon and they had me install the Canon IJ printer and all works well from the computer but with print sharing checked, I still cannot get it to print using my iPad Pro or iPhone XS and AirPrint. Canon had me go thru their App and all works as well as printing thru their app if connected direct thru the Canon printer wifi. So they say it is an Apple problem. I use an Airport Extreme which is connected by lan to the printer but nothing will print wirelessly. I have turned off the router, modem, printer and computer and nothing works. I feel I need to be using the Bonjour choice but then I cannot even print from the computer and I get a busy signal if trying to print wirelessly. Anyone have any other ideas?

A printer connected with an Ethernet cable and the same printer connected wirelessly might as well be two different printers, as far as macOS is concerned.

Disconnect any cables connected to it, remove the existing printer from Printers & Scanners, then add it again as an AirPrint printer. That specific option should appear... AirPrint. Not wireless, not Bonjour, not anything else. Don't reconnect any cables to it.

You don't have to share the printer for your iPhone to recognize it either. An AirPrint printer is independent of all other clients on your AirPort wireless network.

You might also need to restart your AirPort Extreme again for it to recognize the printer.

Then there is something wrong with the printer, or your AirPort Extreme, or both.

You don't need a Mac to use an AirPrint printer. Forget all the other options... if the printer does not appear in your iPad that's all you need to know. Try another.

I suggest calling Canon again and this time don't even tell them you have a Mac. That way, they won't get bogged down discussing drivers, IP addresses, cables, LAN... any of that nonsense. Tell them you have a Canon MB2720 and an iPad and a wireless network what do you do next.

That's all, because it should just work.

Solution solved. Having read something on a Canon board about a different printer altogether, I decided to just unplug the Canon instead of turning it off and waiting 30 seconds. Upon plugging it back in, it would AirPrint from both iPhone and iPad. It would not print using the bonjour wifi setup on the Mac. So I just installed the Canon IJ printer using their drivers on the Mac and set it up as the default printer. So I have 2 printers ( same one) set up and all works. A shame that Canon did not tell me to unplug the unit as I could have saved hours.

I doubt there’s anything wrong with the AEBS also, unless it is a very old and long outdated model and I’m not even sure about that. Just make sure its firmware is up to date. Use AirPort Utility to find out.

Oh and another thing: If Canon wants you to open the App Store and install an app, shut down that line of discussion also. No app is required to use AirPrint. Install nothing of the sort. Just use the Share button in whatever iOS app you’re using (looks like a square with an arrow pointing upward) and select Print. Tap Select Printer and all available AirPrint-enables devices on your wireless network will appear. That’s it. Nothing more. No apps!

I tried that and it didn’t offer me an AirPrint choice. Now it only gave me the canon IJ 2700. Then no printer is found on my iPad though I can print from my iMac. I even tried setting it up by IP address but then it didn’t work from the computer.

this printer worked 6 months ago when I was last using it but I was running High Sierra then. So I do not know if this is a canon issue or an Apple issue. And of course Canon told me to call Apple.

I can understand if there is a problem with the Canon printer, but am not sure what could be wrong with the Airport Extreme. I am using it along with an Express in another part of the house. I get over 200 download speed on my iPad by the router where the printer is and have both an OOMA wifi telephone system connected to it as well as several Apple Tv and Amazon Echo's and all work fine. I have rebooted the router several times but nothing changes and everything else works. I will call them back and start all over but am trying to eliminate Apple being the issue.
