iOS 12 in text camera

So I just got my new iPhone and it has iOS 12. I noticed sending a picture through the in text camera now saves that to your camera roll. This is very annoying because sometimes I just text a meaningless picture to one individual person and have no need to save it. I mean that’s also the concept of Snapchat and now it seems like I have to use that more. Is there anyway I could turn that option off? If I really wanted to save it, I’d just click on it and save it in iOS 11. It wasn’t that complicated, but now it’s cluttered and messy.
