Apple Wallet won’t scan new card

Using an iPhone 7, iOS is current, app is up to date, have rebooted phone, and Apple Wallet still won’t scan a new barcode. The card I’m trying to add is in the list of cards that work with Wallet and the camera opens when I choose to add a new pass, but won’t scan. Even tried actually taking a photo after the app opened the camera. Nothing.
