clear formatting in numbers for ipad

Since, to my knowledge you can’t start a table from scratch and have to select one of the templates to add a table to an empty spreadsheet, how do you remove all formatting from that template so it doesn’t go back to some format you do not desire. Since all of the templates were created on a MAC rather than on the iPad you get formatting that is not actually compatible at times. For instance, you go to format date and time on the calendar template and there is a “Custom” format of “Day Only”. Not possible on the iPad to create custom formatting. You can disply day only of only a date, but anyway. Need to remove all formatting permanently so it will not reuse it as you are designing your table. Or is there actually a way to start a sheet from nothing, meaning not using one of the templates designed on a MAC.
