Bootcamp Windows 10 install freezes on Getting Ready spin screen

I have a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, late 2013) that I had previously installed Windows10 on bootcamp, about 4-5 years ago. The battery failed, so I paid to have the battery replaced. The repair also replaced the 1TB SSD, and several other components.


Now, I am trying to re-install Windows. I am running macOS Mojave and all updates are current.


I downloaded and am trying to install Win10_1803Oct_English_x64 using bootcamp assistant.


Install goes fine until reboot, then after "getting ready" spinning dot screen for a few minutes, the dot stops spinning and the Macbook is frozen. This is repeatable - it seems to reliably freeze in approximately the same place. I have tried different USB drives, not sure what else to try.

This is from my 15-in 2013 rMBP. The SM1024G vs SM1024F bothers me a bit. It is a later revision of the Samsung SSD. I have had issues with replaced Apple-SSDs and BC on many MBPs and MBAs. MBAs are much worse than MBPs.


My suggestion is to go talk to the Apple Genii and seek a resolution. They will push back on the fact that macOS works, and Windows is Microsoft, but see if you can talk to the Bar Manager and see if they see your issue.

Board, I/O

Cable, I/O, Flex


The logic board was replaced during a 2nd repair, after i noticed the hang/freeze problem. The new logic board did not change the symptoms of the problem.

Thank you. That is what I tried, the second time I sent it back for repair. Unfortunately, it appears that nothing that I had said to he phone support person was conveyed to the service center. They simply tested the hardware and replaced some more pieces and sent it back.


My phone support is also expired; all I have is the 90-day warranty on the hardware repair. As I understand it, this does not include software help.


I used this MacBook as a Windows PC full-time, so VM will not really work for me.


I suppose the best course of action is to call, and insist, even if I have to pay extra for software support. I already paid once for HW support since it is out of warranty. The MacBook is useless to me unless I can resolve this issue.

The second time, they replaced the logic board. This was their response to my complaint that bootcamp install was freezing. They apparently did not read any of the notes from the Apple advisors I spoke to on the phone, so did not look at bootcamp install.


I have opened another case, and spent another 4+ hours on the phone today, and am sending the device to the repair center again. I will include notes in the box this time, and the Apple advisor again very carefully documented the issues, so I hope that the repair staff looks at the notes and acts accordingly! Wish me luck!

Your late 2013 Mac shown in this document - (Step 7) - https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Late+2013+Teardown/18695 - does not require replacing the Logic Board for any SSD related issues.


Apple Techs just need to replace the SSD with the correct hardware/firmware version. Including a typed explanation may help. Please tape it to the LCD Display edges.
