Sync a playlist from Itunes to Iphone

I'm following the steps to transfer a playlist created in Itunes to my iphone xr. Nothing is working. The sync button never appears. I cannot select songs or playlists to move them to my iphone. What am I doing wrong?

Hello ksduhfapiufahlijfnv,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are having issues syncing playlists from iTunes on your computer to your iPhone, but are running into issues. First, make sure you are following the steps in this support article: Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes on your computer

If you still do not get the option to sync, I would have to ask if you have an Apple Music subscription? If so, syncing from iTunes on your computer to your iPhone is disabled and you would get your music and playlists from Apple Music and not your computer. See this support article for additional information.

Best regards.

ksduhfapiufahlijfnv,

No, you do not need Apple Music to transfer music from your computer to your iPhone. I asked because that is a frequent confusion when someone has just subscribed to Apple Music. Users are are accustomed to syncing from the computer to the iPhone, but with Apple Music, both the computer and iPhone sync from Apple Music and not between each other. From your comment it doesn't sound like you have Apple Music, so that isn't the issue.

I would recommend making sure that iTunes is updated to the latest version for your computer. Take a look at this support article for the necessary steps:

Hi There:

Thank you for your reply. Yes, that is the article I was using to try and sync. When I get to step 3 as outlined in the images of that document... the option to sync the library does not appear. It just asks me if I want voice memos.

Secondly, please let me understand this correctly... For music that I purchased, I would need to buy an apple music subscription to move it from iTunes on my computer to my phone?

Hello:

Thank you for your reply. Yes. I have the most recent version of itunes. I have my phone connected to my computer now. There is no option to choose music to sync into my phone. When i click on my phone in the left side menu and then click on music it shows everything that's already been put on my phone previously. I have not added music from itunes to my phone in a while. Now, When I click on my phone's icon higher up on the page, it brings up the specifications of my phone. That is all. What else should i try?
