Kernel Panic - at my wits end

I've been having Kernel Panics for about half a year now. I know there are many, many posts about kernel panics but none of then are helpful to my situation. I'm running 10.12.6 on a 2011 MacBook Pro. The logic board and battery were replaced about two years ago. I installed a solid state hard drive about a year ago.

The genius bar won't even look at it, it's too old. I took it to a tech who did a clean install of the operating system but that did not work. The hardware test came back reporting no problems. Sometimes it restarts once, sometimes twice in a row-- The log in screen has the photo strangely off to the side but when I start typing in my password it rights its self. I have no clue as to how to proceed.

I really enjoy having all the things a MacBook Pro provides--built in DVD drive, ethernet capability, a slot for my camera's memory card. I really don't want to buy a new machine if I don't have to. It works fine, just has kernel panics several times a day.

To help troubleshoot your Mac, I would suggest that you consider using EtreCheck and posting the resultant report for us to review. (Note: The EtreCheck report does NOT contain any personal information.)

  • You can download EtreCheck from here.
  • Start EtreCheck from a normal user account. Optionally, you can run it from a user account with Administrator privileges.
  • Select a problem from the drop-down menu to enable the "Start EtreCheck" button. Optionally, you can add comments on what issues your Mac is experiencing, especially to aide others with similar Mac issues.
  • Click on Start EtreCheck
  • Allow the program to run to completion.
  • When done, select Report from the left-side window to display it.
  • Select the Share Report icon, then select Copy Report.
  • Paste the report to your reply post. Hint: Use the Add Text option from the ASC editor's menu bar.

Hmmm, yesterday afternoon I uninstalled all things Avast and just had my first kernel panic of the day today.

Run it again —You can get a good look at your System config using the utility http://etrecheck.com

looking for conflicts and or recommendations, third party interference. First time around it said you had more than one anti-virus? (Malwarebytes is one you can trust for removing malware)

post the new results if you still need further help.

Quite possibly you will need to reinstall the macOS on top of your existing macOS if there was system damage by Avast. Easy enough to do from How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support

Always advised to have a backup plan to protect your data.
