Download Paused
Pages download is "Paused". Has been so since yesterday. I tried restarting the MacBook Pro several times but it is still showing "Paused" on the Launchpad.

You need to "accept" those apps that are pre-installed on your new 2018 Mac. Go to the Mac App Store ( menu) then click on your account in the lower left of the Mac App Store window. You should then see something like this screenshot. Click the "ACCEPT" button.

What happens if you double-click the app in your Applications folder?
My App Store account shows those 5 apps I need to "adopt." None show as "paused" so I can't check anything with that. But I did delete GarageBand from my Applications folder & then went to the Mac App Store & did a search for GarageBand. It showed as an app available to download from the cloud like it was an app I'd previously purchased but did not have installed on this Mac (also a new 2018 MacBook Pro). I did download it & I expected it to no longer show as an app to adopt/accept but it's still there as in the screenshot above. So, at this point, the only thing I can think of as another user, is to delete the apps from Applications & hope that "paused" state doesn't reappear after you re-download the apps. I would do it with just one app to start & see how it goes.
Other option, which you may need to do anyway, is to contact Apple Support. Click the "Contact Support" link at the top right of this page just below the black banner & talk to an Apple employee.
Deletet and reinstalled--problem solved. Thank you very much for your help.
As I said, you need to "accept" these apps in the Mac App Store. Do that & then post back if they still show as "paused" in Launchpad after the acceptance has completed.
If you are not currently running macOS High SIerra 10.13.n, or macOS Mojave 10.14.n, then you cannot install Pages because either of these operating systems must first be installed.
Pages, Numbers, and Keynote were preinstalled but the first time I turned the machine on, the Launchpad showed Pages and Keynote in the process of being upgraded, but "Paused". It has been 18m hours and several restarts, but they are still "Paused".
This is a two day old 15" MacBook Pro with Mojave 10.14.3.
It is my belief that Pages, Numbers, and Keynote should be pre-installed on that new Mac. Are they not in your Applications folder?
I opened my account in the App Store, but there is no "Accept" button. Still "Paused".
