This seems like a catch-22

You can only use Safari to stream HDCP-compliant video (i.e. Netflix, Vudu, Amazon), but those services do not support Safari if there are issues. Whenever I've had problems, I have been told to use Chrome by the various help desks at various times. The problem is that these videos will only play in SD when played in Chrome. Why not just stream any online video in HDCP-compliant encryption? Why not just output anything on the screen in HDCP-compliant encryption? Does anyone know if this would be considered anti-competitive behavior?

I’m sorry, perhaps I wasn’t clear. This is a limitation of the MacOS or hardware. It is impossible to code any page that plays HD video to an external monitor on a Mac in anything other than Safari. This has nothing to do with the 3rd-Party vendor. If the MacOS would output HDCP-compliant video from Chrome, I never would have posted.

Apple has acknowledged this in my conversations with support.

Let me try again. The limitation is in MacOS and it’s relationship to Safari. There is no major browser other than Safari that can output HDCP-compliant video via a Mac to an external monitor from any webpage. These are also major services that work on other OSes and hardware. Please also see the sixth bullet in the article this discussion began on. It specifically states that it will only work in Safari. This is not Netflix. This is not Vudu. This is not Amazon. This is not Chrome. The key factor is Mac Pro hardware, MacOS, and Safari.

That being said, when I went to the Apple Store to purchase my Mac Pro, I specifically asked about this use case and was told it would work. I wish they had been up-front about it.

Those services are not Apple products.

Chrome is not an Apple product, best you ask Google developer.
