Apple Health/Watch: How can I see steps data in real time?

I have an Apple Watch series 1 and iPhone 7 and a Fitbit flex.

When im walking and I open the Fitbit app, I can see my steps in real time as I’m taking them.

When I open the Apple Health > Dashboard > Steps, it shows steps as of a previous time. Sometimes it’s 10 minutes. Sometimes on the scale of hours.

Though not acceptable, I’d understand if it were just when my watch was the primary source for steps since it may be bugging and not syncing with the watch. But even if my iPhone is the primary source, the last updated time is never right now. It’s always a while ago and I don’t know how to refresh it (not that I should have to).

How fan I get my watch, valued at 4 times the price of my Fitbit, show my steps in real-time?

thanks in advance.

iPhone 7, 12

If you're asking how you can get the Health app on your phone to show things in real time, you can't. That's not the purpose of the Health app. It's primary function is to sync all the health data you collect to apps that need them. The other assumption is that, if you're using the Watch, you won't be opening up the phone to check on activity while you're walking. The Watch was designed to let you leave your phone in your pocket.

I understand you may not agree with Apple's choices. There's no way they're going to be able to please everyone. You should let them know how you feel here:

The fact that the FitBit is more expensive is irrelevant. It's a question of design choices on the part of Apple. (And, the Watch does do a lot more than the FitBit.)

The app is Pedometer++ and it's free. It was the only app of the handful of fitness trackers I tried that included complication integration -- that is, adding information to the watch face itself.

First, however, you'll need to grant it permission to use your Apple devices to count your steps. On your iPhone, open the Health app, tap the Sources tab, tap Pedometer (it drops the ++ on the iPhone for some reason) and tap Turn All Categories On

To add a step counter complication, Force Touch your watch face to call up the gallery of faces and select one that lets you customize it. Tap the Customize button to edit the complications displayed on your watch and use the digital crown to scroll through the options until you find Pedometer++. I found that the X-Large watch face offered the biggest, boldest step counter.

Lol. Sorry let me clarify. In the Health app, I don’t want to have to wait over an hour to see my steps when I’m looking at my dashboard at a glance. Yes, I can open the app on the watch, but that defeats the purpose of having a dashboard in the health app.

For example. It’s 3:44 here. And in the health app, it ahows last update at 2:20??? That’s ridiculous! Over an hour of unclogged data?

I don’t rhink it’s unreasonable to want the watch to cast its data at more frequent intervals, right?
