Turning Genius On/Off

re: iTunes 12.9.2.5

In trying to add a song to my iCloud library, I get an error message:

"Genius results can’t be updated because the iTunes Store doesn’t recognize your iTunes library.

Please choose File > Library > Turn Off Genius to turn off Genius, then turn it back on."

OK, so I go to File>Library....only there's no "turn off " option. There's an "Update iCloud Music Library" and an option "Update Genius" but clicking on either of those brings me back tot he same stupid message I originally got to turn the Genius off.

So....uhhhhhhh....how precisely do I do that?

Now, this is a new iMac and I did migrate from my previous Mac, so to make sure, I signed into my iTunes Store account and tried again, even after shutting down iTunes and restarting the entire system. Same stupid message and the library still isn't updating automatically.

However, your post did trigger a thought: In Preferences, I shut off the iCloud Music Library, turned off Genius in iTunes, then turned them both back on in reverse order and voila! My iCloud library now includes the added songs.

Hello Carl Salonen,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you are receiving an error in iTunes "Genius results can't be updated because the iTunes store doesn't recognize your iTunes library." In this situation signing out of iTunes and closing iTunes completely may help. Open iTunes again and sign back into iTunes. Then make sure that iCloud Music Library is enabled under Preferences > General Preferences. Finally, click File > Library and Update iCloud Music Library.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

Thanks, Starr,

I did all of that when I originally posted the question but to make sure, I tried it again following your instructions.

I still get the >>"Genius results can’t be updated because the iTunes Store doesn’t recognize your iTunes library.

Please choose File > Library > Turn Off Genius to turn off Genius, then turn it back on."<< error message.

I've even gone so far as to shut down my computer, then reboot, re-open iTunes and try again. She message.

Any other ideas?
