Old DSR-11 tapes with FCP

Hi,

I have 8mm films transferred to DVCam tapes about 15 years ago. , I have an old Sony DSR-11deck. When I plug it into final cut, it sees it as a camera and sometimes even controls it, but it says "No Data from Device".

Sometimes it says can't control the device.

Can the deck work with FCPX 10.3.4?

Is it the deck?

Is the deck so obsolete it is not salvageable from todays technology?

Are the DVCam tapes obsolete beyond reach?

I don't want go back to converting the 8mm again.

Any hope here?

Looks as though the connections are OK as you say you have been able to control the deck.

Importing DV into FCPX and iMovie over the last couple of OS's has become more difficult .Who knows why?

Do you have access to an older version of iMovie, say version 8,9 or better still iMovie HD6?

You may have better luck using these to import.

If you can import from these versions then you would need to transfer the files to FCPX.

Try this.....Select play on the deck first, followed by import.

If still no joy see if you can import using the Record feature in QuickTime Player.

Tried both and neither worked.

Do you think it could be having a ton of adopters?

I have a converter from the DV to Firewire 400, then 400-800 firewire, then 800 Firewire to Thunderbolt.

I remember when Firewire 800 was new, having a converter would limit the number hard drives you could link.

I send a picture of the the adapter. It's 1394 6p - 4p adapter. I found a DV to 800 Firewire adapter so I could eliminate the 400 - 800 Firewire adapter and still have the problem.
