iOS 12.1.4 taking up too much of system storage

After I updated to the latest 12.1.4, I noticed in iPhone's SYSTEM is taking up 46.85GB. Is there a way to clear up some of the data being used by the system? All I've done as many have recommended was iTunes sync and restart. I'm not happy to reset the iPhone just to reclaim this storage if this can be done by Apple update like they had on previous bug updates before.

Connect the phone to iTunes on your computer and sync it. If that does not reduce the system storage restore IOS using iTunes.
