I have an iPhone XS Max. It is now February of 2019. I cannot remove this message from texts with non-iPhone users. I have done everything that is suggested online, but it still remains. I am up-to-date with my software, operating on iOS 12.1.4.
I do not know what else to do. This is a very expensive phone, yet I have to deal with glitches like this? Unacceptable.

It was driving me crazy as well. But there is simple easy fix. Figured out on my own LOL đ
Go to Settings of course
Then Messages , then Send and receive window should be your phone number click there and there youâll see that you can receive iMessages and replay from your phone number , email , Apple email , unmark all of that just leave your phone number marked.
Thats it!!! Couldnât believe that was so easy. It works now without the annoying âNumber changed to primary â

I had this happen to me twice now when switching carriers. Changing My Number under Settings -> Phone seems to fix it.
Try the following options, depending on the carrier different ones seem to be the default.
(xxx) xxx-xxxx
1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx
+1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx
Problem went away both times as soon as I did this.
This worked for me: deleting the text chain with the problem, and re-text to that non-iMessage user.
It sucks to lose previous texts and pics/video... but at least the annoying message went away...
I don't have two lines.
Check Settings > Cellular. Do you see a row that says âAdd Cellular Planâ? If you tap on that, are you asked to enter a QR code? (I know thatâs what you should see if you do not have two lines.)
Is there some place in Settings > Cellular where youâre offered the opportunity to label your phone number âPrimaryâ?
They actually did fix this issue. Purchased xs max when via preorder. Had number changed to primary message constantly even though dual sim capability was not even available yet. When they released the first ios update, the number changed to primary completely went away. Following update, it was back. Apple support said they werenât sure why they didnât keep that as is and it would go back but they are âaware of the situation.â So stupid.
The issue is not your son, your friend, or anything related to their phones.
The issue is your iPhone, and an ambiguity about which of your multiple numbers is to originate the message.
Do not have two numbers.
I FIXED IT!!! I found a thread online and followed it step by step. I did restart my iPhone between the steps in Image 1 and Image 2. And then I deleted the thread that was having the problem. But now there is NO MORE line between each reply.
And Apple said it couldn't be fixed.

It cannot be fixed according to them. They are working on a fix.
Trying to get that message out of every line of a text when someone is not using an iPhone. I don't need to see "Number changed to Primary" every single text, between every response.
I am trying to get that to go away.
Thank you. I did see this. I tried to follow everything it said. I don't understand how you set up a primary and secondary number, though, if it's only one. Set it the same twice?
And I presumed when it said to do that on the XsM, it meant the contact? I have no idea what an XsM is.
I am doing nothing but messaging via text with my son who is on a Galaxy. I don't know what on earth I can be doing incorrectly. I have his contact set up with one number. I tried to set it up with the same number twice to see if that would change anything. It didn't.
So what would you suggest? I'm really bothered by seeing this constantly.
