Slow 2010 MacBook Pro

I'm trying to clean up my very old MacBook Pro before getting a new one. I don't want all the extra and duplicate items on a new one. I upgraded to Sierra so that i can "Manage" the Storage.

It has been quite slow for a while and I wonder if there is any way to speed things up.

MacBook Pro 17", 10.12

The EtreCheck was also, helpful. It shows the major problems of failing hard drive

Which of these problems cause a slowdown and should be taken care of? I'm trying to clean out the HD (I have a lot of Media files)

Backup all your data.

Replace your hard drive.

Hello Chochisu,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I understand you want to know if there is any way to speed up your MacBook Pro. I'm happy to assist you in any way possible.

You can check Activity Monitor to see if any apps or processes affecting your MacBook Pro performance: See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity

You can also reset your NVRAM/PRAM: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Best Regards.

You are getting rid of it, and now you want to speed it up...

I would be suspect a 2010 with the original OEM HD that the drive itself could be failing.

You can run the utility http://etrecheck.com

to get a good look at your System conf. for conflicts/errors/ failures/ malware etc

you can post the results in the additional txt box if you need more help interpreting the output:

The EtreCheck was also, helpful. It shows the major problems of failing hard drive and obsolete hardware. Yes!

There are some minor issues that I might be able to do before it all falls apart - Clean up and Unsigned files.

There are quite a few unsigned files. They all seem to be legitimate.
