Duplicate Digital Subscriptions to The New York Times

I have a digital subscription through iTunes to The New York Times for $16.98/month. However, NYTimes cannot find that subscription and keeps asking me to subscribe directly with them. Frustrated, I did subscribe with NYTimes for another $14.99/month, with the intention of canceling iTunes’s. When I tried to cancel iTunes, the subscription with NYTimes.com disappeared too. Back to square one: Duplicate subscriptions and double the cost/month! I have tried to get recognition of the iTunes subscription by The New York Times and got nowhere: dealing with NYTimes customer service is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. And if I keep the iTunes subscription, The New York Times cannot recognize it and will torment me with “you have four articles to read” and see “options to subscribe.”

Help!
