Issue accessing DOD website with CAC reader

When logging in to DOD website that require CAC card, after I input the PIN for the CAC, a screen pop up that says “”com.apple.WebKit.Networking” is trying to authenticate user.” and asks for password (not PIN). I tried the login password, the CAC password, the Apple ID password,and any I can think of to use as password. I know it is supposed to be login password, I even reset it, but the same pop up screen keeps showing and I cannot get to the DOD website. After I unplugged the CAC reader, the pop up screen don’t show any more after I typed in the login password, but at the same time because CAC is unplugged I cannot access the website.... does anyone see the same issue as I do and know how to solve it?
