Messages app keeps freezing upon opening on Macbook Pro

Every time I open my imessage app on my Macbook Pro, it keeps freezing each time. I would freeze for about 5 seconds each time and then return back to normal. I have already tried restarting my computer and using safe mode- the problem has been going on for weeks. Does anyone have solutions?

iMessage freezes for couple of seconds when I open it on macOS Mojave Version 10.13.3 Please help, I have tried force to quit method, restarting my mac, nothing is working. In addition to that, the whole mac freezes, not just the app itself.

iMessage freeze/pinwheel - MacBook Pro Mojave 10.+++ This says solved on earlier queries -- but it's not. Messages hangs terribly (10-15s!!) almost every time I try to use it. 10.14 and .15 seemed like a modest improvement -- but it's not "fixed." Any news on how to fix this for once and for all? Is it even on Apple's radar for the next update??

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
