Heart Rate Complication not updating on Apple Watch

Hi Liz. Do you have Background App Refresh turned on for Heart Rate? To check, open the Watch App on your phone, go to General > Background App Refresh. Make sure the slider next to Heart Rate is green. May not hurt to toggle it on and off a few times to try and get it to update.

Changing the complication around didn’t work for me. I’ve contacted Apple and they also suggested temporarily swapping the complication. As this hasn’t worked they are supposedly getting their engineering team onto it and I’ve been promised a call back in about 3 days. Meanwhile I’ve installed the ‘Cardiogram’ app which has a small complication and seems to work fine. It keeps displaying the heart rate when apple’s own app just shows ‘Tap to measure’. Poor show Apple. Will report back with any details.

Reset didn’t work for me but I went into “watch face” in the watch app on iPhone, under complications, toggled heart rate to date and back again which sorted the error

Try a reset. Press the crown and side button in until the Apple logo appears. Then check you have not turned on power saving mode on the Watch settings >general >workouts > Power saving off

Is there an Apple document/webpage that says the heart rate complication the YouTube demo is showing is suppose to display the current heart rate?

If there is a document/webpage, then suggest you file a bug with Apple. If there is no such document/webpage, then suggest you file a suggestion with Apple

Which Heart Rate Complication are you talking about? I have 2. The middle complication is the one that gives me the current Heart Rate information. The bottom right does not. I have to tap on the bottom right one to get it to give me information.

Having said that, it seems each time I turn the phone off and then back on again it won't show the heart rate details on the complication - I need to reset every other day when I turn the watch off. Grrrrr

Read 2 or 3 posts up the thread. It sounds like this is a bug which is on Apple’s Fix List for a release some time in the future.

Here’s a short demo of what the problem is. You can see the heart rate app is working but on the watch face the top-centre complication is just showing ‘tap to measure’ rather than the last heart rate recorded.

Yes, the last heart rate reading (and when it was taken) should be displayed. See photo.

Spoke to apple. Seems their engineering team are aware of the software issue and it will be fixed in a future update.
