while importing media

This just happened today. While trying to import media into FCP 10.2.3 (AVCHD clips) from an external hard drive that hard drive appeared not under DEVICES but suddenly under CAMERA. Also another external hard drive showed up under Devices as well as the Face Time. This happened first time to me.

I am totally puzzled what to do.

I uploaded original clips onto main hard drive (which still appears under Devices) of my Mac (iMac 27", 3.2 GHZ, Core i5, OS 10.10.5) but can't use them by FCP because they are "grey"

Anyone can help me to restore the proper functioning?

There will be a folder or name at the top level of your drive fooling FCP X that the drive is a camera or camera card.

Like; DCIM, etc.

Move that into another folder off the top/root level.

A folder or bundle with a name like PRIVATE or AVCHD or DCIM or VIDEO can do it. Anything that makes the drive mimic a camera drive or card that has these types of folders.

Hi Al,

Thanks for looking into this for me.

However I don't see any strange names or folders in the directory of the hard drive.

I tried to post the screenshot of the directory but apparently it was too large for this post.
