How many loops are there with the full install of the most recent Garageband?

I'm teaching a Garageband course this year in high school (aka - Music Compostion & Production), and I'm in the midst of getting the school to have everything up to date for me. It appears all the downloading of additional sounds/loops has finished on the desktop iMacs being used, but the total number of loops is not the same on all systems. Most show 5372, but I have another at 5391, and still another at 6070. I'd really like to know what the total number should be. Thanks!

Have you reindexed all loops on on all computers? From the drop-down menu at the top of the Loop Browser > Reindex all loops.

Apple does not document the number of loops that come preinstalled with GarageBand, and it is hard to check the number of the current loops, if GarageBand is installed on a computer, where previously an older version of GarageBand has been installed. The set of loops is changing between GarageBand upgrades, but if the previous version is not uninstalled, all older loops will remain for compatibility. I have been using GarageBand since 2004, and by now I am having 24903 loops installed. Some of them have been installed by the JamPacks, some by the older GarageBand versions.

Yes, GarageBand and Logic are sharing the same loop library, and also the loops installed by MainStage.

You may want to check the Preferences in garageBand on all Macs, if a filter is set on the Loop browser.

Garageband > Preferences Loops: Keyword Browsing. Make sure "Filter for relevant results" is disabled. This filter can reduce the number of loops shown dramatically. And set the "scale" selector in the Loop Browser to "Any".

You should be able to see on the school Macs, if older sounds are installed, if you look at the instrument library.

Select a midi-track and open the "Library" tab. If the Legacy section in the library is not empty, there are older versions installed.
