I have 44 GB of free storage but the App Store repeatedly says that's not enough for Xcode, which it says is a 6.1 GB download. One old question on Stack Overflow says you need at least 20 GB, but I've got more than double that, yet the App Store still won't let me download it. How much storage am I supposed to have to be able to install Xcode? Why is 44 GB not enough?

I don't think you read my question. I already said 6.1 GB is the download size, but it won't let me download despite having 44 GB of free storage.
