Today I was surfing the net and my iPhone 4's screen went black and proceeded to vibrate nonstop. I was suggested to hold the Lock and home button to reset, but that did not work. I am now waiting for the battery to go dead. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
The same thing happened to me yesterday, black screen and vibrating. Nothing was working, no reset, and it was vibrating for 2.5 hours, so I went to apple store. They said they had never seen it and would replace it. Every time I have gotten a replacement I have had other issues, so I wanted a brand new one, which they would not due. Instead, the tech in the back, removed the battery and reconnect it to make it stop vibrating. So I just kept the phone instead of getting it replaced. If it happens again I might drop the iphone all together. I love it but reliability needs to be first priority. I am testing a HTC EVO on sprint to see how that works.
1. People here probably googled the problem, found similar results here and posted or came to the official apple forums to post. It's not that it's a "common" problem, it's that this is the internet, these are humans, and we like to look for solutions to things. People don't go to the internet and make posts about how their electronic is working fine (4 years on the playstation forums taught me to not judge quality by forums)
2. My xperia x1 does what you guys describe when it needs to vibrate twice at the same time. say I get a text message, and another at the same time.. the thing just goes off with vibration time varying. I usually just let it go...pos phone anyway,,
Was reading a PDF file in mail then the screen crashed, well it dissolved and went black. Now after 45 minutes of it crashing it has started non stop vibrating. I've done the hard reset and it won't recognize when plugged into iTunes.
Guess it will just vibrate itself out of power and then see what happens.
I'm wondering if it's a specific app that's triggering it, or if it's a setting for notifications coming in... ? I haven't experienced it yet, but of course, I'm concerned.
If you guys don't mind me asking, what was everyone doing just before the problem started? The fact that everyone is experiencing exactly the same behavior when it happens is troubling. My 3gs was a tank, but the ip4 has been awesome up to now, it'll be a major bummer to have to turn it in. 😟
I was checking my mail, received a PDF file which my company issues to everyone. It wasn't a malicious PDF file, because I was reading 3 other PDF files before that.
While I was reading the PDF the screen dissolved, matrix style then went black. Not a sudden black screen, but a dissolved transition. Then the phone went dead. Tried the HOME button and POWER button reset for 10 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 1 minute. Nothing. Tried the power button hold for 10 seconds, then 30, then 1 minute, still nothing.
I plugged it into iTunes, synced my phone then it started vibrating non stop. I repeated the soft/hard reset again sequence again and nothing.
After letting the battery die out as it was vibrating, I plugged it the next morning and viiiibrating. I've decided to just bring it back to the Apple store when I get a free day.
Since Apple likes to duplicate the issue, all they have to do is plug it in and watch it dance on the counter. Will make sure there are other people watching too so they know what's up.
Hrm, I wonder if it's a problem with the iP4's version of the iOS software interacting with PDFs specifically, or something in the multi-tasking handlers in the OS? Clearly there is something that triggers the vibrate function AND causes the phone to have a nervous breakdown. The only way they'll be able to fix it is if they know what the trigger is.
Was anyone else working with documents when their phones went down?
Hey mine was exactly last night.
It started after I hanged up a received phone call and it will not stop vibrating.
No screen display and I pushed all the buttons including the volume adjustmend.
I just let the battery die out after 5 hours and recharged it after that and it went back to normal again.
I was about to send the phone back to the shop to find out the solution but apparently its back to normal now.
Had the same problem a few minutes back. I wasn't using the phone while it started vibrating, had a blank screen and wouldn't respond to any inputs, except holding home + lock for about 10 seconds made it stop vibrating. I'm not sure if it's a one time problem, or if I should get my phone replaced. Any suggestions?
I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 3G this morning. First, the screen wasn't responding to my touch. The buttons were working but the screen wasn't working. I tried shutting it off but couldn't even do that. I tried resetting it, didn't work. I called myself to see if this would kick it out of its funk but the screen stayed black and it only vibrated. I hung up the landline but the phone kept vibrating. It's been going for about an hour now and it's very annoying for me and my coworkers who have to listen to it vibrating. I've tried resetting it several times but nothings working. Any other recommendations besides letting the battery die? I've had nothing but problems with my iPhone. 😟 Several times a week it seems to shut itself off even though there's plenty of battery juice. I try resetting it, which worked in the beginning, but it doesn't work anymore. When it does this, I'm not able to wake my phone back up using either button. I don't receive incoming calls and they don't even show up on my missed call log. This is extremely frustrating because it will happen for like 10 minutes and my phone is totally useless during this time. It's happened while I've been traveling and using the GPS and I've had to just pull over and wait for my phone to come back to life 😟 Please help Apple!
I had the same problem as well a couple of days ago. My phone was in my pocket when it started vibrating. The screen was black and the only way I could get it to stop was to do a hard reset. After the hard reset it powered back up and was fine.
Has anyone had this problem before the 4.1 update?
This just happened to me.. and I was planning on just letting it die and restarting like suggested bellow but after 3 hours of non-stop vibrating, I decided to try different things.. turns out if you press and hold the "home button" and the "power/lock button" for a few seconds.. it resets, the phone restarts, and the vibrating STOPS!!! hope this helps and works for other people!
