Importing photos to folder with same file name

I'm trying to import iphone photos to a folder on my external hard drive through image capture (to the same folder) with same file name. Will existing photo be deleted/replaced? how do I avoid that? im just trying to get all my photos into one folder.

Overtime I'll delete old photos off my iPhone and sync it to the computer and files automatically gets named "IMG_xxxx" in chronological order. So my past photo that I have saved to an existing folder has the same file name as a new photo.

If you are using image capture, you need to select the folder. and Click import

If the same name image exists in the folder. The photo/image will not import.

Import to another folder and then copy paste to your folder. It will give you option to keep both/overwrite/skip
