Firmware file?

iPhone could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible when I update from my PC. What does that mean? And how do I go about updating the phone? iPhone 6s, iOS v11.3 (15C114) firmware 4.30.02 updating to iOS v12.2 supposedly. It takes 90minutes + to download the 3GB file and I don't want to go through this again. Any help would be appreciated.

Your iTunes on the PC must be updated to the latest release first.

Yes I saw this before I posted. I have updated iTunes was at the latest version. still no good.
