can't hang up in Facetime call

Hi,

Had an issue today where I couldn't hang up a Facetime call. No red X appeared - nothing to enable me to disconnect.

I even tried to power down the phone, but couldn't even do this.

I had this issue around 5-6 months ago - but now it's reappeared.

I can see a great number of other threads relating to this - but no clear answer.

I have an Iphone X running IOS 12.2

I have had this issue for months. I turned off FaceTime in settings. If I want to use it I have to turn it back on. Not only can you not hang up you cannot even when you close the application on 10XR it keeps calling.

My wife and I just had this issue this morning. She accidentally FaceTime called someone, upon furiously trying to hang up the call, the red X to hang up disappeared, and there was no way to bring that button back up to hang up. To test it, I FaceTime called my wife, and I tapped elsewhere, then the red X disappeared and no swiping or tapping brought the red X back up.

Did you reinstall your iOS on your phone? Did this fix the problem? This is quite annoying if you accidentally buttdial and can't cancel the call.

Hello jan_bache,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to end a FaceTime call. At this point, we would like you to reinstall iOS on your device; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Use the “Update” option and not “Restore” and these steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further.

Cheers!
