Text Messages gone wrong

My husband got a new ipad. It was set up with my apple id so my text messages and phone calls were showing up on his ipad. I created an apple id just for him and signed into it on his ipad. So far so good. Then I went to his cell phone to do the same thing....sign out of my own apple id and into his new apple id. The issue is that now he cannot send a text message to MY iphone from his. My iphone WILL text his, but we cannot even respond to those texts from his iphone. We have texted a few other people from this phone with success. Also, messages to my iphone from his ipad were successful. HELP!
