VERY slow sync (hours!) for pictures via iTunes for Mac since last Mojave and iOS updates (3/2019)

Since I updated to the latest Mojave 10.14.4 and the latest iOS 12.2 this week, synching my photos to my iPads and iPhone is abysmally slow. Granted that I have over 25,000 photos but up until this week (and these updates), if I add a few photos to one folder (10-20 or so) then they'd synch in a couple of minutes. Now it takes several hours, just for a few new photos. I have already rebooted my (27" 5K Retina) iMac and my iPads, and I deleted the iPod Photo Cache to start from scratch. I thought once I got the Photo Cache reestablished, that the sync would be fast again like it was before the updates, but that is not the case. I am using a USB cable plugged directly into my iMac. Does anyone else experience this and does anyone have any other suggestions? Is this enough info to help me? Thank you.

This looks like a previous problem with iTunes has returned with the latest update.

Please report the problem to Apple:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

The more people that do this, the quicker something will be done.

Thanks (both of you) for reporting this. I am not happy at all. I haven't tried updating since I"m travelling. What I'll do when I get home is update one iPad, and try the sync. If it's the same as before, I'll update the Mac and try with that iPad. If it's the same, I'll try the update with my other (non-updated iPad). And if that is the same, will just update everything and wait for Apple to pay attention and FIX THIS!

I also confirm that the update iOS 12.3 and macOS 10.14.5 did not address the issue. I am desperate as this my main tool to show and sync photos to people. My full workflow is affected. Will Apple do something about it ? Workaround would be welcome....

Same issue here....

I have already reported to the link provided.

It's unaceptable APPLE doen't provide any solution/help/fix so far (10.14.5 didn't address the issue)

I have the same exact issue since iTunes 12.9.4.94.

Recently updated to iTunes 12.9.5.5 and nothing has changed for me neither.

Syncing is a pain in the a.... I mean, it just takes way too long.

I doubt we are the only ones having this problem; we are the only ones writing about it.

But how many complaints/reports does Apple need before it finally pays attention and does something?

I just reported it for the third time and included a link to this thread. My experiments with trying different combinations of updates have not worked. Right now, an updated iPad is stuck on "Step 5 of 6" with an updated iMac. I know the big OS updates are coming next month but I don't think they should wait until then to fix this issue!

I just tried it with one of my iPads. The initial sync with the old version of iTunes took a while (almost 30K photos in my library) but it worked, and then I added a few photos and it synced right away, like it's SUPPOSED TO.

Will try my other devices now.

I have a similar Apple combination a 27" Mac running macOS Mojave version 10.14.5 and the very latest iPad Air and the iTunes sync takes HOURS. Please Apple do something to help overcome this problem.

When I expressed my thoughts, they were immediately deleted by either moderators or bots in literally under 3 seconds.

If Apple only worked this hard with fixing bugs and issues with software...

These are my thoughts, and I believe things will repeat.

The problem last time was that the sync would not work at all after an update to iTunes. After several further updates to iTunes the problem was eventually fixed.

same problem at me! Syncing pictures from Mac to iPhone works very slowly. Spec. reading the Macs directories before starting the real sync process spends very long time. "Reading pictures from ..."
