Why do songs become unavailable on Apple Music?

Hi all

Having some issues with Apple Music. I get the message "This song is not currently available in your country or region" when it's added to a playlist. However, searching for the song in Apple Music allows me to play it.

The playlist is fine on iTunes on MacOS, don't have any issues playing from there. I haven't changed region, but I have just re-subscribed to Apple Music after having about a year off from it.

Any ideas?

OP and everyone else having this problem, I think I may have fixed it. I was having the same issue. The song is having an issue in how it saved to your library for some reason. I fixed it by doing the following:

Go to the Songs section of your Library.

Find the problem song and delete it from the library.

Re-add it to your library/any playlist.

It should now be playable.

I don't know why this happened, or how this song came to be saved in my library because I'd never actually added it. But lo and behold, it was there and causing the problem.

I am having a similar problem with Apple Music...I will specifically search for a song, not in my downloaded or anything, and it will say “not available in your country or region.” Which doesn’t make sense because I have not left the country or anything of that sort. It won’t play AT ALL, even if I look it up on iTunes which I find super annoying because I pay $9.99 a month to have the songs I search not play...I’ve even tried restarting my phone as a whole! Ridiculous!! Someone please help!!

hi guys, just noticed i have this issue too, however i have a different side of it. i have about 800 songs on itunes on my pc from cds, everything works fine on the pc. i sync my phone with it via cable, all the songs are downloaded onto my phone fine. then after a couple of hours a few songs will randomly grey out (all completely offline). i re sync the phone, they all appear again, then after a while OTHER songs will be greyed out. the songs that do it each time dont seem to be related in any way. i dont have apple music, and im not changing playlists or anything. this leads me to believe it isnt anything to do with apple music, as all of my music is offline. i dont think its anything to do with rights as the songs that are effected change each time, and only after a couple hours. i can only think its some kind of bug with ios itunes itself where it just randomly decides some songs arent allowed or whatever.

I have simmilar problem but not only with some songs from albums that otherwise play ok, but with MY OWN AUDIO FILES! Made on same machines /iPad/Mac with Logic X/ nad they are “unavailable in my region”, while others play ok. This is major ****** Apple guys. Stop putting out lame updates and planned obsolescence politics (suddenly my iPhone could not sync to my Mac! I had to upgrade iOS and now I have problem with files.... )

Yeah tried logging out and logging back in and it's still happening. Guess I'm officially done with Apple. They're getting rid of Itunes anyway and moving to "Music." I was there when Itunes first started, and I foresaw all of the issues with this DRM horseshit, and finally relented because Itunes pushed out all the competition. Now I've got an ongodly amount of music stuck in Itunes, and all my fears are coming to fruition.

I’m having this issue as well. In fact, I’m getting rather tired of seeing this on practically every single album I add. This is Vince Gill’s brand new album which I am available to purchase in my region but for some reason some of the songs are not available in my region? What is this? I’m not buying that some songs on the same album are available while some aren’t? What is it about those songs that cause it not to be available in certain regions? If they are protected by copyrights not available where I live, then wouldn’t the entire album be greyed out? I’m starting to think paying 15 bucks a month for limited music due to some shady dealings with no real explanations as to the reasons why then I think I’d rather save that 15 dollars. Even Spotify is the same. Some songs are available while others aren’t on albums. And I don’t understand why I’m able to buy this entire album and listen to every song in my region, but the songs, which I am paying for to listen to monthly, are not available to stream? Something tells me this is a ploy by these streaming services to get you to buy albums instead of streaming them.

Music industry has nothing to do with it (other than being responsible for the Orwellian DMCA, the infrastructure for buffoonery like this). Exhibit A: voice memos that I recorded right on the iPad are greyed out and “not available in my country” they were recorded using the built-in microphone in this country. Exhibit B: I had the exact same tracks synced to my iphone as to my ipad, both running the same version of the OS; everything plays on the iphone, nothing plays on the ipad.

Nothing. I've yet to read any remotely justifiable reason for Apple's actions or any response from Apple at all except for someone that was told an obvious untruth by their support team. Your case is the strongest yet for proving Apple messed up but won't admit it. There are laws that prevent a company from preventing you from being able to use your purchases. I'm sure this would qualify but doubt this is big enough to take to court, its expensive. And my remedy was simply to re-sync to iTunes. Why Apple did this is beyond me.
