Hi Prismstudios,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help with the warranty for your new Apple Pencil.

The warranty for the Apple Pencil will be in Apple's system. You can even get the serial number in Settings > General > About on your iPad when the Pencil is plugged in.

For more about the warranty, have a look at iPad Service and Repair and scroll down to "Apple accessories".

There you will find "Apple-branded accessories, including Apple Pencil, are covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty for accessories. You can repair or replace the battery in your Apple Pencil for a fee, or for free if the battery is defective and covered by the warranty, AppleCare+, or consumer law. Our warranty doesn’t cover wear from normal use."

And:

"Your Apple Pencil is also covered under AppleCare+ for iPad, including accidental damage. You can use one of the two incidents of accidental damage included in AppleCare+ for iPad to cover a damaged Apple Pencil. Or you can pay the out-of-warranty service fee."

Have a great day!

The way I understand it, any accessory purchase is not registered separately any longer; the only way it would be registered automatically is if you bought it directly from Apple and/or along with an iDevice.

So, you cannot register it. You can keep whatever receipt you have and, if you need a repair, you can try at an Apple store. However, if the pencil is from last year, the warranty period on it has probably expired (the sales/seerial numbers were no doubt registered at the time of the original sale). If you buy an older device from an authorized reseller, then Apple may acknowledge your purchase date; that happened to me: the unit had sat at the retailer for 9 months unopened, but because he was an authorized dealer and I had a proper receipt with the serial number on it, they accepted that. In your case (ebay seller), probably not.

Oh, I love their customer service! They’ve answered several of my goofy questions. They allowed me to email a screenshot of the “receipt”, with the serial# typed at the bottom, and apparently it was officially registered to me when I first paired it. The original purchase was in Jan, so I’m good through then, awesome! I saw those docking stations, and thought about them. Now I want one! Anyone know if the aftermarket charge cord with the female end plug made for the pencil is safe, or useful? L

Apple is admittedly the best. And now you know when the Pencil was originally sold out of Apple inventory. I'm sure it will last far longer than the warranty. Make sure you keep it charged. The teeny tiny batteries in both Pencils should never be fully discharged. If you find it inconvenient to keep it plugged into your iPad, there are aftermarket charging stands you can get for the Original Apple Pencil on Amazon.com

Here's one nice one: https://www.amazon.com/TechMatte-Charging-Stand-Pencil-Built/dp/B01FEYA61Y/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=apple+pencil+charging+stand&qid=1554947039&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

It’s not in the system yet! I bought it new, and unopened on the 4th. I got it from a company that sells through an eBay store, and I do not have a physical receipt. I have order confirmations, and the sold to receipt from eBay , which does not have the seller’s address on it. I would assume they are authorized to sell Apple products as they had a large number of new sealed Apple pencils, and als sell OEM parts for Macs. I intend to call customer service Monday, as I have asked the seller to hopefully send me a receipt via email. I have the serial # off the box, but there is of course, no way to currently verify date of purchase. Company is Hexagon Tech ( ehexatech on eBay) in Camarillo, Ca. Hope I can get it in the system.

I'm not angry at all. But buyer beware. You get warranty directly from Apple when you purchase Apple products from Apple directly or from an Apple Authorized reseller, like Best Buy. But you didn't purchase from Apple or an Apple Authorized reseller. How this company got so many new Pencils in sealed boxes, I couldn't guess. But my comment is true that your warranty is with them, because you bought it from them and they are not an authorized reseller. I'm happy the Pencil works great. I hope you never have to worry about a warranty claim (it comes with a 1 year warranty from Apple, when purchased from Apple). I'm sure if you have an issue, they will take care of you, but if you do, you need to ask them for warranty support.

You’re welcome. As for the remark about ebay - I do not trust anything on ebay as they allow illegal/pirated software to be sold as well as activation locked iDevices which makes them completely useless (and possibly stolen). And I am especially careful with Apple devices because of the warranties; an Apple pencil is relatively inexpensive, but I want to be 100% sure that I get a valid warranty with my expensive computer. So, keep researching!

Whoever sold the Pencil to Hexagon Tech has the warranty for the Pencil. Just because they sell products on ebay, doesn't make them an authorized seller of Apple products. If anything goes wrong with your Pencil, you'll need to take that up with Hexagon Tech. Apple won't acknowledge your receipt from them. I hope you got a great price for the Pencil as you'll have a hassle should anything go wrong with the pencil.

I wasn’t sure either. As it is , this is way more easily replaced than my other items ( yes, officially registered), and was a pretty good deal price wise. I would not have gone for open box, or used stock, pretty sure those will be totally unretrievably dead. Thank you for a politely worded answer. I occasionally do buy accessories on eBay, and have NEVER had any problems with any of them. Yes, buyer beware, and I research the **** out purchases. JUST NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT WARRANTEES BEFORE....This was just a curiosity issue, mostly as I had recently heard about warranties only being valid if purchases are bundled....But it was worth a shot. Like I said the pencil is perfect, and had a decent charge% on board when I paired it to the iPad, no issues there. Awesome tool, BTW....
