Apple TV

i have an Apple TV circa 2015(-ish? Maybe older. It uses an HDMI cable and connected to a tv ) , issue is that it isn’t recognized as one of my “devices” and I can’t stream music from my monthly Apple Music subscription/account , is my device outdated or what’s the fix?

Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

You would need a 4th generation or newer (A1625, A1842) to have support for Apple Music subscription service. 3rd generation or earlier (A1469, A1427, A1378, A1218) doesn’t have provisions for this service.
