iTunes Data Useage

Over the last 2 months our data usage has skyrocketed. We’re going through 1-2gb a day. We narrowed it down to hubby’s iTunes music app, but I’m not sure why it’s using cell data, since we’re using WiFi at work and home, and only occasionally use it out and about. His cell data is turned off for iTunes as well. We reset our stats, which is how we figured out it was iTunes. Any ideas?!

If you scroll down to the bottom of that screen, what does it say is the last time statistics were reset?

The Cell Data Usage values are not reset automatically when your service plan billing cycle renews. You need to manually reset it. If the "current period" is of more than the current billing cylce, the usage may come from before it was turned off, and would not really apply to what is going on now.

Very strange then. Being switched off, should prevent any data usage.

Not sure if maybe there's iTunes purchases that have not been downloaded to the iPhone, and playing them is forcing the data usage despite the switch, though I'm not sure that is even possible.

Some general trouble shooting things to try would be to Turn the switch on, then back off, and then test again. If it consumed 844Mb in 24 hours is about 1 MB every 2 minutes you should be able to see the value grow or not grow.

If that does not work, you can try to Reset all settings in Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings.

This will clear all wifi passwords and reset the switches there to their default on position, so you would need to turn them back off.

If all else fails, a trip to the nearest Apple Store may be required.
