Import photos

I usually import all my photos to my laptop when my memory gets pretty full but for some reason my Mac is not recognising a section of my photos on my phone around June! I went to Las Vegas and all my holiday photos are still on my phone but I can’t get them on my laptop. Is there any trial and errors you suggest?

Perhaps iCloud Photos got enabled on your iPhone. This can happen during a software update. If iCloud Photos is enabled with "Optimize Storage" some older photos may no longer be stored locally on the iPhone but only in iCloud. Then you cannot import them using a USB connection but need to download them from iCloud.
