Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Standard MAC Upgrade and OS 10.12.6

I need to buy InDesign; I don't currently have it , or CS on my computer. If I buy the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Standard MAC Upgrade will it be compatible? The seller thought I might need a java runtime update to allow it. Is this correct, and what does that actually mean? Thank you.

Mac Pro, macOS 10.12

You are welcome :-)

Just in case you need further discouragement:

The Classic Environment error message indicates that you would need a PowerPC Mac (not Intel) running either OS X 10.4 or below with OS 9 also installed (the Classic Environment), or just OS 9 by itself.

OS X 10.5 and above cannot run the Classic Environment.

Intel Macs cannot run the Classic Environment

InDesign 2 was the first version to run under OS X (without OS 9)

InDesign 5 (CS3) was the first version to run on Intel hardware.

Getting one step closer. I'm now loading Snow Leopard onto an older machine, which I used to use (and successfully used SL on). I have erased hard drive and tried installing SL from an installation disc. Twice received message, installation unsuccessful because the necessary support files cannot be copied. Any suggestions please?

I am grateful for your help. I'm really needing to get this sorted.

From what little info you’ve provided I’d say the disk you are using is defective and/or whatever is on it is not what you think and/or it isn’t legally licensed anyway. Why don’t you download the free CC trial from Adobe. It’ll run for a month.

Or, for simple layouts, try using Apple’s Pages program.

It’s not clear what version of InDesign you have. You’ve mentioned three different versions: CS5, InDesign 5 (which is actually CS3), and “InDesign Original. ” These all have radically different requirements.

I think defective if anything, but it came unopened in its original box, with the proper sleeve and manual, so it is genuine. However, I noticed too that I've switched my references. It is InDesign Original. According to my research, it should work on Maverick but I may be wrong.

I specifically need InDesign. I could download it for now and give myself time to find a solution. I'd quite like to sort this now though, having spent vast amounts of time on it already.
