iTunes Match - Tracks Won't Add to iCloud Music Library - Keep Duplicate Doesn't Work

Hi all,

I have been using iTunes Match for a few months, and it seems to be working very well. I've been able to import many soundtrack CDs that have duplicate tracks to others (original soundtrack vs. expanded soundtracks with some different and some identical tracks). iTunes Match worked well with all of these, but the most recent CD I imported has two tracks marked as duplicates (which I have never seen before). I have many duplicate tracks that have been imported successfully, so I'm not entirely certain why this is. I want to keep the tracks on iTunes Match to maintain the track integrity of the album. I've tried a number of things:

  • Deleting the two specific tracks, then re-importing them from the CD, then updating the iCloud Music Library.
  • Updating iCloud Music Library from the File-->Library-->Update iCloud Music Library menu
  • Right-Clicking on the track, and selecting Add to iCloud Music Library
  • Clicking on the duplicate track icon in the track information, and selecting 'Keep Duplicate' from the "This song is already in your iCloud Music Library" dialogue box.

If I Update iCloud Music Library from the menu, the activity icon in the top-right corner of iTunes spins, says 'Waiting to Upload Songs', then nothing. If I keep duplicate, the icon remains and nothing happens, If I Add to iCloud Music Library, the icon for both tracks track turns to the dotted cloud icon, then the icon disappears, then reappears a few minutes later with the duplicate icon.

I would welcome any suggestions for how to fix this so iTunes Match actually uploads these tracks. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Thanks for this - I didn't try exactly those instructions, but it did give me an idea. What I did was rename the album with _TEMP at the end for the two duplicate tracks, then I uploaded those to iCloud Music Library. Once that was complete, I renamed album for those two tracks back to what it was supposed to be. The files integrated back into the correct album, in the correct sequence, and all was well again.

Appreciated the link, as it had a lot of good information that suggested fooling iTunes Match into thinking the track was different might get the job done!
