Pdfs no longer open in iCloud Files App Pdf icon replaced by Movie Reel icon

Pdfs no longer open in iCloud Files App on iPad Pro and iPhone Xs Max instead of showing a pdf icon or an icon of the document I'm trying to open it shows a movie reel icon with a reddish background. When you click the icon to open the Pdf a blank grayish document opens with the name of the file and the word "data" below it. A third device a iPad Air opens pdfs normally in iCloud Files App. All 3 devices are on iOS 12.2. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that you have a PDF file that is no longer opening in iCloud Files; I'd like to help.


This can happen if you install a third-party app that is designed to open that file type. The only way to get the file to open in iCloud Files again is to remove the third-party app. You'll know which app to remove by opening the file and see which app displays the PDF. I found the App that the icon was associated with and deleted it form my iPhone, its not like click on the PDF opens the App all it does it take me to the same blank document screen with the name of the PDF file and the word "data" below it. You can see in the photo below a screenshot of my iPhone where PDF's are not opening and my iPad where they are opening and working correctly. The PDF files are circled in Red. On the iPad they are opening and displaying normally you can see the icon for them. After i found and deleted the App with the movie reel icon the PDF icons switched to the Spark Email App icon. But again clicking on the PDF does not open any other app, it just opens a blank grayish page with the name of the PDF and the word "data" as you can see in the 2nd photo.
