Compass app disappeared

It means it’s in your phone if it says “open”. Most likely hidden in a folder (an icon containing more thxn one app):

look in folders OR reset home screen layout from settings - general- Reset . This will shuffle all the apps around and make it easier to find,

or you can add it to your widgets on the home look screen.

Go to home screen, swipe right to show the widget screen, scroll down to edit, then select it from the settings it brings up if what you can add.

Check your "Extras" folder for the Compass app. If you have deleted it see below.

Restore a built-in app that you deleted

1. On your iOS device, go to the App Store.
2. Search for the app. Make sure that you use the exact name of the app. Find the correct name of built-in apps.
3. Tap  to restore the app.
4. Wait for the app to restore, then open it from your Home screen.

If you have an Apple Watch, restoring an app to your iPhone also restores that app to your Apple Watch.

It sounds like you’re searching within Settings and not searching the proper way - using Spotlight.

The bottom line is you almost certainly have placed Compass in a folder.

Oh. Thought if you’d deleted it , there’d be the cloud icon to reinstall.

Im always losing apps and find them in folders

my compass app is in a folder called extras

You might also check Settings > Siri & Search > Compass to be sure all is well there.

Yes, that is exactly what happens when you open an app from the App Store that is already on your iPhone.

Here’s what I see resulting from a Spotlight search (bottom truncated). I have the Compass app on a home screen. I’m not sure how this compares to what you see.

FYI, Compass is not available as a widget.
