Safari

The operation of Safari is becoming erratic, particularly in viewing my online newspaper. Sometimes it does not download some images or comments to articles or clicking on a link produces a tab which fails to completely download and just hangs.

I also have Firefox on my computer which I go to when Safari plays up, showing that the fault is with Safari, not the website.

I have tried all the usual remedies, emptying cache and cookies and deactivating extensions, all to no avail. What else can I try?

If you have not tried this already, try it.

   Startup in Safe Mode.

       Launch Safari and test.

Restart normally by clicking the “Restart” button at the bottom.

Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply        Pastebin

I started up in Safe Mode and ran Safari. None of the previous problems were evident so I rebooted normally and so far it has behaved OK. I note from Apple Support it is possible that starting in Safe Mode does rectify some irregularities. I have just been on my newspaper website for a couple of hours with no problems. In the event that the problems reoccur I will get back to this forum.

The problems did not stay away for long, just became more varied. On one occasion a notification appeared telling me that "WebKit" had failed, the latest manifestation was trying to use Reader View which resulted in only half the page loaded with the rotating beachball and Safari frozen. I've given up. Firefox is now my default browser. I would like to reinstall Safari but cannot be bothered to have to reinstall the whole ****** operating system just to do that. Thanks for trying to help.
