Mail app freezes when trying to connect to Yahoo

My Yahoo mail, calendar, contacts stopped synchronising, possibly after the last security update. on 7 April. I deleted the Yahoo account and tried to reattach. My Userid and password worked correctly for Yahoo, but the next step (what do you want to connect-Mail,Contacts,Calendar etc.) just freezes on the screen. Left it for hours to see if it was working in background but the only option is to cancel. I have another mail account with live.com, and this is working OK. I have also closed and reopened this without problems. I am using High Sierra - 10.13.6

Many have had this problem of trying to redo an account, I've seen a few fixes but nothing consistent.

Quit mail.

Finder>Go>Go to Folder, copy & Paste:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail

Highlight all the contents.

Then right-click and choose "New Folder with Selection”. Do not move the new folder from this current location.

You can close the Finder window.

The next step will be to restart the Mac and test

After the computer is restarted, open the Mail Preferences to see if it opens properly.

Or...

Cant create re add Mail

I was having this problem trying to add a mail (not gmail) account just for Notes.  In my ~/Library/Keychains folder, I found a subfolder with a long hexadecimal and hyphens name.  I deleted that subfolder, logged out, and logged back in.  I was then able to add the account, without having lost any passwords from my keychains.
